Stryker Medical announced in December of 2018 their plan to discontinue manufacturing the Stryker System 6 6215 and 6212 batteries. Our team has been working diligently to find an alternative for our customers who are still using System 6 Power Tools. However, at this time, we do not have a solution to replace the System 6 batteries. As the current batteries get closer to the end of their life, you may find yourself in a tight spot.
Upgrading to a System 7 Power Set or System 8 Power Set may be the only way to ensure that your operating room schedule will stay full, and you will be able to continue providing the best quality of care to your patients.
Let's look at each of these sets a little closer to help you better decide which one will fit your needs.
System 7 Power Set
System 7 offers an improved power-to-weight ratio reducing the overall weight by 29% when compared to Stryker System 6. Much of the weight reduction is made possible with the SmartLife Lithium batteries. Compared to their NiCad counterparts, the new Lithium battery packs are significantly lighter. As an added bonus, Stryker claims the SmartLife cells last almost twice as long as System 6 NiCad cells. Stryker also added an advanced microprocessor that continually monitors both the System 7 handpieces and battery so you can get the most out of your Lithium investment. Since noise can be an issue, Stryker redesigned the sagittal saw and reciprocating saw to be significantly quieter than previous generations. And finally, the System 7 single and dual trigger rotary drivers carried over the drill/ream function introduced by the System 6 series and accept the same attachments. If your current accessories are in good condition, all you will need to upgrade are the handpieces and batteries.

A standard Stryker's System 7 Power set includes the following attachments:
6203-110 Quick Connect Drill Attachment
6203-113 Hudson Reamer Attachment
6203-131 Jacobs Chuck Drill Attachment
6203-135 Modified Hudson Reamer Attachment
7203-026 Wire Collet
7203-126 Pin Collet
Battery Charger
Sterilization Case
System 8 Power Set

Stryker's latest release in power is the System 8 Power set. System 8 handpieces have further improved ergonomics that allow surgeons a more neutral wrist position, and each of the handpieces can be actively washed and temporarily submerged during the cleaning process. To step up their battery game, Stryker redesigned the System 8 batteries by insulating them. The increased thermal resistance of the S8 batteries means they are less likely to sustain heat damage during exposure to extended sterilization temperatures. A newly designed System 8 sagittal head aids in the cleaning and sterile processing over previous generations. However, other than the changes made to the ergonomics and the new battery design, the System 8 single trigger driver, dual trigger driver, and reciprocating saw remain mostly unchanged from their System 7 counterparts.
